NOVELTY – The device applies mechanical pressure to an optical fiber to increase the threshold from which the SBS appears, thus, suppressing SBS in the optical fiber. The mechanical pressure has a profile comprising of segments of different pressure values and frequency of different phonons. The interaction of photons with the phonons of different frequencies generates various peaks in the gain of the Brillouin specter. The peaks are formed with amplitudes and widths according to the number of phonons in different frequencies and physical characteristics of the optical fiber. USE – For suppressing SBS in optical converters and amplifiers.
