The process consists of (a) making a vertical median incision through the sternum from the neck down, cutting through the external bone; (b) opening the exposed pericardium; (c) making an incision in the right atrium of the heart; (d) making a wide incision of the left ventricle; and (e) inserting a flexible tube connected to a reservoir of the infusion soln. with controlled temp. and pressure. USE/ADVANTAGE – The process is used to treat sows, pigs, goats, horses etc. for human consumption. More homogeneous distribution of chemicals with less risk of cross contamination, since the tube only contacts the circulatory system which is sterile. There is less loss of soln. The process can be carried out at the abattoir and eliminates residual blood in the animal, as well as permitting internal cooling by the soln. infused.
