NOVELTY – Lactam production involves protecting free hydroxyl lactone derived from quinic acid, which is reacted with amines to form amides of protected quinic acid and then intramolecular lactamization is perfornmed for obtaining the desired product. USE – Method for producing lactam (claimed), preferably gamma or delta lactam. ADVANTAGE – The method produces the gamma or delta lactam in a simple and cost-effective manner.
