gradual codification of images and video using dct and codes of golomb

NOVELTY – An encoder uses an adaptive Golomb codification method that utilizes a variable parameter, L, which is greater than or equal to zero and which determines the functioning of the encoder. A first algorithm is used for DCT of the blocks of an image. A second algorithm is used to encode the bits of non-significant coefficients. USE – For images and video. ADVANTAGE – Allows images to be compressed for easy storage and transmission. DETAILED DESCRIPTION – The encoder compresses digital images and produces a binary sequence representing the original image but having a length that is only a fraction of the actual number of bits of the image. Some distortion of little relevance to, and which is imperceptible on, the image is allowed without damaging the perception of the image. A decoder reconstructs the compressed image to produce an image having the same dimensions as the original image.
