The obtained anhydride babassu coconut mesocarp is washed with N,N’-dimethylacetamide and then distilled water to form chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp. USE – Method for preparing chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp used for removing metal ions, preferably copper ions from cane sugar(all claimed). ADVANTAGE – The method provides chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp with increased adsorption capacity, which promotes extraction of metal ions in solution and enhanced performance in a cost-effective manner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION – Chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp preparation involves adding an organic anhydride in a container under magnetic stirring. The babassu coconut mesocarp is reacted with organic anhydride under melting temperature of anhydride for 30 minutes. The obtained anhydride babassu coconut mesocarp is washed with N,N’-dimethylacetamide and then distilled water to form chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp. The formed mesocarp is dried at 373 K under vacuum for 24 hours and then suspend with hydrochloric acid for 30 minutes. The obtained mesocarp is filtered and washed and then saturated with sodium bicarbonate solution. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a method for removing metal ions from hydroethanolic solution, which involves: (A) putting chemically modified babassu coconut mesocarp with a solution hydroethanol; (B) stirring the system for 30 minutes; (C) separating hydroethanol solution; (D) removing adsorbent material with metal ions; and (E) collecting solution hydroethanol free metal ion.
