Stabilised acyl nitrate prepn. by reaction of acyl halide with silver nitrate and stabilisation or minerals of clay type

Stabilised acyl nitrate prepn. by reaction of acyl halide with silver nitrate and stabilisation or minerals of clay type

NOVELTY – Acyl nitrates are prepared by reaction of acyl halides with silver nitrate at 0-80 degrees C in the presence of minerals e.g. montmorillonite K10 or KSF, olivine, kaolin or bentonite, to form heterogeneous mixts. USE – USE The acyl nitrate is used for nitrating activated aromatic cpds., e.g. toluene, phenol, cresols, vanillin, isovanillin, naphthalene, etc. ADVANTAGE – ADVANTAGE Stability of acyl nitrates is improved, allowing heating in various solvents for several hours. Yields are comparable or better than from conventional nitration reactions. With phenol and toluene, ortho/para isomer yield ratio is lower than from other known nitration reactions.
